Fire at Iranian drug rehabilitation centre kills 32, injures 16

The fire Iranian drug rehabilitation centre has killed 32 people and injured 16 others.

The province’s deputy governor Mohammad Jalai stated, “Thirty-two people have been killed in the fire” which erupted at a drug rehabilitation centre in Langarud, a city in the northern Gilan province”.

Jalai went on to say that 16 people were injured in the fire, four of them are in critical condition.

The cause of the fire was not immediately obvious, but Mizan said the province’s chief justice Esmail Sadeghi has initiated an investigation, noting that the centre has a capacity of 40 people.

Sadeghi stated that numerous suspects, including the centre’s manager, had already been apprehended.

ISNA transmitted the footage of the fire, which lit up the night sky and sent large plumes of smoke into the air.

Other footage showed emergency officials, firefighters and ambulances gathered outside the heavy site after the fire was put out, with photographs showing the roof of the building being wrecked, windows shattered walls darkened by smoke.
