Claude Ruiz Picasso, the younger son of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, died in Switzerland on Thursday at the age of 76, his lawyer announced. He did not specify the cause of death.

Claude Ruiz Picasso oversaw the Picasso estate from 1989 to July 2023, when he delegated authority to his sister, Paloma.

Paul, his eldest son via his marriage to ballet dancer Olga Khokhlova, died in 1975. Maya, his daughter from his marriage to French model Marie-Therese Walter, died in 2022. His children with French artist Francoise Gilot were Claude and Paloma.

According to lawyer Jean-Jacques Neueur, Ruiz Picasso is survived by his wife Sylvie Vautier and their two children.

Picasso’s estate maintains the works of numerous of his children and grandchildren. The organization has a monopoly on Picasso’s copyright, as well as reproduction and trademark rights.
