PM Modi To Embark On Five-Nation Tour To Strengthen Global Partnerships

PM Narendra Modi will embark on a five-nation tour from July 2, visiting Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday.

The tour aims to deepen India’s global partnerships across continents, with a focus on diplomacy, development cooperation, trade, and technology.

First Stop: Ghana (July 2–3)

PM Modi will begin his tour with a historic first bilateral visit to Ghana, marking the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades.

He will hold talks with the President of Ghana to review bilateral ties and expand cooperation in the economy, energy, defence, and development.

The MEA said this visit reaffirms India’s commitment to strengthening relations with both ECOWAS and the African Union.

Second Stop: Trinidad and Tobago (July 3–4)

At the invitation of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, PM Modi will visit Trinidad and Tobago—his first visit to the Caribbean nation as Prime Minister and the first Prime Ministerial-level bilateral visit since 1999.

He will hold discussions with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and PM Bissessar, and is expected to address a Joint Session of Parliament.

This visit aims to inject fresh momentum into the centuries-old ties between India and the Caribbean, especially in digital transformation and cultural exchange.

Third Stop: Argentina (July 4–5)

In Buenos Aires, PM Modi will meet President Javier Milei to enhance the Strategic Partnership between India and Argentina, with a focus on defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and people-to-people relations.

The visit follows their first meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio (November 2024), where both leaders expressed satisfaction over expanding ties and India’s growing role as one of Argentina’s top five trading partners.

Fourth Stop: Brazil (July 5–8)

PM Modi will then visit Brazil to attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from July 6–7, followed by a State Visit to Brasília.

At the Summit, leaders will discuss pressing global issues including reform of global governance, climate action, responsible AI use, and global health.

On the sidelines, PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings and later meet President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to advance collaboration in trade, defence, energy, agriculture, health, and technology.

Final Stop: Namibia (July 9)

In the last leg, PM Modi will make his first visit to Namibia, only the third-ever by an Indian Prime Minister.

He will meet President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for talks and deliver an address at the Namibian Parliament.

PM Modi will also pay tribute to Dr Sam Nujoma, Namibia’s Founding Father and first President.

The visit emphasises India’s commitment to Africa and strengthens its historical and strategic relations with Namibia.

With this five-nation tour, PM Modi continues to position India as a leading voice of the Global South, reinforcing the nation’s role as a ‘Vishwa Bandhu’ (Friend of the World) in a fragmented global order.

Over the past decade, India has emerged as a reliable development and strategic partner, particularly across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
