Israelis are fighting in Gaza for the right to live in safety and will never forget the Hamas attack that launched a war, the country’s army chief said on Saturday.
Herzi Halevi said, “We will not forget, and we will continue to remind even those who try to deny it”.
In a televised statement, Herzi Halevi added, “We are fighting for our right to live here in safety”.
According to Halevi, the only way to ensure the release of captives currently detained in the Gaza Strip is to apply increased military pressure on Hamas.
“Tomorrow marks a hundred days since the start of the conflict. A hundred days have passed and the hostages are still being held hostage in Gaza by the cruel Hamas terrorists”, Halevi continued.
“We are operating by all means, most of them covertly, to return them and we will continue to do so until we return them all”, Halevi added.
Halevi insisted that staying in Gaza was the only way to win the war.
“We must continue to operate in enemy territory, not allow extortion attempts for a ceasefire that seemingly will not bring about real results”, Halevi noted.
Halevi went on to say, “We must continue applying pressure and that is exactly what we are doing”.
On October 7, Palestinian terrorists kidnapped over 250 people, 132 of whom Israel claims are still in Gaza, with at least 25 thought to have been dead.
Although more than 100 hostages were freed during a week-long truce in November, the fate of the remaining hostages is unknown.
