UK authorities reported that joint US-British air raids hit multiple sites in Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, and a key port city overnight Thursday.
According to the report, strikes have also hit telecoms infrastructure in the town of Taez. Several persons were killed or injured during the strikes.
In a statement, the British defence ministry stated, “Planes launched strikes in a joint operation with US forces against Houthi military facilities to degrade their ability to persist with their attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden”.
Since January, the United States and the United Kingdom have initiated retaliatory strikes on the Houthi targets in Yemen in response to maritime attacks.
The strikes have done little to stop the Houthis, who have vowed to target the United States and UK vessels, as well as all ships bound to the Israeli ports.
On Wednesday, they announced that they had targeted a Greek-owned bulk tanker as well as several other vessels in response to Israeli raids on Rafah.
