The recent flood in Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces of Afghanistan killed at least 16 people, including women and children.
According to local officials in these provinces, the floods destroyed 500 houses completely or partially. The floods have affected Dand-e-Ghori, Doshi, the city of Pul-e-Khumri, the village of Morchak in central Badakhshan, and other areas of these provinces.
Abdul Ghafoor Khadem, Baghlan Police Command chief, stated, “Last night, a very strong flood occurred. The major casualties we have are in the Larkhab area of Doshi district in Baghlan province. In Larkhab, approximately six people were martyred, including three children, one woman, and two men, and over 300 houses have been destroyed”.
Mohammad Kamgar, the Taliban-appointed head of the Natural Disaster Management in Badakhshan, stated that the floods harmed ten members of one family and one other individual.
Meanwhile, numerous families who have lost everything as a result of the floods have complained about the delay in receiving relief. The families requested quick assistance from the Taliban-led government and aid NGOs.
Over the past week, more than 300 people have died as a result of disastrous floods in many parts of Afghanistan. The floods have devastated hundreds of residential houses and thousands of acres of agricultural land.
