25 Years Of Seva: PM Narendra Modi’s Journey From Gujarat To Global Stage

On October 7, 2001, PM Narendra Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister. Twenty-five years later, he marks 25 uninterrupted years at the helm of government, first in Gujarat and, since 2014, as Prime Minister of India.

His supporters associate the milestone with ‘seva’, or service. A Union Cabinet resolution described his journey through ‘Nation First’ and ‘Citizen First’. It highlighted initiatives from SWAGAT and Jyotigram to Jan Dhan, UPI, GST, infrastructure, welfare delivery and technology.

PM Modi’s Gujarat tenure followed the Bhuj earthquake and focused on infrastructure, technology, investment and measurable governance.

SWAGAT enabled direct grievance redressal, while Jyotigram improved rural power distribution.

As Prime Minister, Prime Minister Modi expanded this approach nationally. Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and mobile connectivity strengthened digital welfare delivery.

UPI transformed everyday payments. Nearly 60 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened, while housing schemes delivered more than four crore homes. PM-KISAN transfers crossed Rs 4 lakh crore.

India’s global profile has strengthened through the G20 presidency, African Union inclusion, Global South outreach, Vaccine Maitri and deeper engagement with major powers. Chandrayaan-3, semiconductor ambitions, renewable energy and Atmanirbhar Bharat reflect the drive for national capability.

The India-UK relationship has expanded into trade, technology, finance, defence and education. Bilateral trade reached about £47.9 billion in the four quarters to end-2025.

The Free Trade Agreement entered force on July 15, 2026, covering 99 per cent of Indian exports.

PM Modi’s next goal is Viksit Bharat by 2047. For Britain, India’s growth offers opportunities across technology, finance, healthcare, education and investment.
