Kavita Runs Barefoot In Saree; Chasing Better Future For Children Through Courage

While many candidates arrived in tracksuits and sports shoes for a recruitment run, Kavita Devi stood apart. The Ramgarh resident ran 1,600 metres barefoot while wearing a saree.

Kavita, from Soso village in Dulmi block, wants to join the Home Guard. She lacked running shoes and sportswear but refused to let financial constraints weaken her resolve.

A video of her run went viral on social media, drawing widespread appreciation for her determination.

Kavita lost her husband around three years ago and now raises two children. For her, a Home Guard job means more than employment. It represents a chance to support their education and build a secure future.

She reportedly travels about eight kilometres from her village to Ramgarh’s Sido-Kanhu ground. She completes household responsibilities before heading to the field for training.

Kavita’s barefoot run has become a symbol of resilience for women who pursue ambitious dreams despite limited resources and family responsibilities.

Residents and people associated with her training stepped forward after the run. They provided her with a jersey, shoes and other sports equipment.

Ramgarh has proposed recruitment for 284 Home Guard posts, with 50 per cent reserved for women.

For Kavita, the 1,600-metre run carries a deeper meaning. Every step reflects her concern for her children, the pain of losing her husband and her determination to become self-reliant. Her story highlights how courage can overcome scarcity. As she ran barefoot in a saree, she carried not merely a recruitment dream but the hope of a better future for her children.
