According to reports, Israel is trying to recruit one lakh workers from India to replace the Palestinians who lost their jobs after the October 7 attack by the terrorist group Hamas, which is based in Gaza.
Voice of America (VOA) News reported that the construction industry in Israel confirmed that it had requested permission from the government to allow companies to replace approximately 90,000 Palestinian workers with up to one lakh workers from India.
According to reports, work permits for Palestinians who were employed in Israel prior to the October 7 surprise attacks by Hamas have been revoked by Israel.
A member of the Israeli Builders Association told VOA News that they were in talks with India about this and were awaiting an Israeli government decision before granting additional approval.
“We hope to engage some 50,000 to 100,000 workers from India to work across the sector and bring it to normalcy,” VOA News quoted the member as saying.
According to reports, Israel’s construction industry has suffered as a result of the exodus of Palestinian labourers.
There were rumours earlier this year that 10,000 Indian labourers would be sent to Tel Aviv as part of an agreement between Israel and India.
As per the agreement, approximately 2,500 workers were enrolled for the construction industry in Israel, and another 2,500 workers were for the health sector, specifically for nursing.
Since the October 7th attack, Israel and Hamas have been fighting nonstop. The Hamas-run Gaza authorities assert that 10,000 people have died in Gaza, despite Israel’s claim that the October 7 attacks claimed the lives of almost 1,400 people. Even on the 29th day of war, there is no sign of a ceasefire.
