Rajeshwar Singh Defends ‘Bulldozer Justice’ And Hits Out At SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and practicing lawyer Rajeshwar Singh recently expressed his views on “Bulldozer Justice” in a legal magazine. The term refers to the state’s practice of demolishing illegal structures linked to criminal activities. Singh argues that this approach, though controversial, addresses the pressing need for swift action in a justice system plagued by inefficiency and delays. He claims that the “Bulldozer Justice” serves as a necessary response to criminal impunity, particularly in cases where traditional legal processes fall short.

Illustrating the Need for Decisive Measures

Rajeshwar Singh highlights notorious cases such as Vikas Dubey and Mukhtar Ansari to support his stance. Dubey orchestrated a deadly ambush on police officers, while Ansari, with over 65 criminal cases, continued his criminal activities even from prison. Singh argues that actions against such figures are essential for restoring law and order. He cites incidents like the illegal encroachments on historical sites in Delhi as examples where swift action could have prevented prolonged litigation and maintained public order.

Criticism and Public Sentiment

Singh criticizes those who dismiss “Bulldozer Justice” as mere political vendetta. He points out that crime affects all communities, regardless of background, and stresses the importance of maintaining public safety. Singh defends the actions taken against high-profile criminals and their associates, such as Azam Khan, Atiq Ahmed, and Vijay Mishra, arguing that these measures are crucial for dismantling criminal networks. He also responds to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s criticism, asserting that the bulldozer actions targeting properties of alleged criminals are justified.

Singh emphasizes that public support for these actions is significant. Surveys indicate that a majority of residents in Uttar Pradesh endorse the measures, viewing them as a necessary step towards ensuring justice and safety. Singh concludes that legislative reforms are needed to address case backlogs and improve judicial efficiency. He advocates for summary trials and district-level committees to expedite justice and enhance governance.

Overall, Singh’s perspective reflects a broader debate on balancing rapid justice with due process, highlighting the complex dynamics of enforcing law and order in contemporary India.
