“My Favourite Person”: Sunil Gavaskar expresses delight at Sachin Railway Station in Gujarat

Sunil Gavaskar, the esteemed former India cricket captain, shared a photo from Sachin Railway Station near Surat, Gujarat, expressing joy at the station being named after his “favourite person.” In his caption, Gavaskar highlighted the foresight in naming the station after a cricket great. The post garnered over 31,000 likes and comments, with users sharing connections to Sachin and expressing deep respect.

Users from the region mentioned their ties to Sachin, citing its historical significance as one of the oldest princely states from the “Raj” era. Gavaskar’s acknowledgment of the station in Surat resonated with locals, and comments praised both Gavaskar and Sachin as cricket legends, even referring to Sachin as “the god of cricket.”

Sachin Railway Station, a small station in Surat, is strategically located on a major route connecting Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Delhi, boasting three platforms. Gavaskar, a key member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad, held the record for the most Test centuries before Sachin Tendulkar surpassed it in 2005. Gavaskar’s illustrious career, marked by over 10,000 runs, 45 half-centuries, and 34 centuries, showcased his prowess against formidable opponents, notably the West Indies in the 70s and 80s. The ‘Little Master’ Tendulkar, with 13 centuries in 27 Tests against the West Indies, eventually surpassed Gavaskar’s record, etching his own legacy in cricket history.
