The Russian House conferred the prestigious Dostoevsky Star Award on Professor Meeta Narain of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for her outstanding contributions to the Russian language, literature, and the promotion of Indo-Russian cultural relations.

Dostoevsky’s great-great-grandson presented the award at a ceremony held at JNU, which also featured dignitaries and literary personalities.

The Dostoevsky Star Award, bestowed by the Russian House, recognises individuals who have significantly advanced literature, cultural heritage, and international dialogue.

In India, prior recipients include renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar and other scholars celebrated for fostering Indo-Russian intellectual and cultural ties.

In addition to the Dostoevsky Star Award, Professor Narain has been honoured with the Pushkin Medal by the Russian government.

She is a frequent visiting faculty member at prestigious institutions such as Columbia University and New York University, further contributing to international academic exchange.

Celebrating literary and cultural diplomacy

The award ceremony underscored Dostoevsky’s enduring literary influence and recognised Professor Narain’s achievements in strengthening Indo-Russian relations through education and cultural dialogue.
