The Russian House conferred the prestigious Dostoevsky Star Award on Professor Meeta Narain of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for her outstanding contributions to the Russian language, literature, and the promotion of Indo-Russian cultural relations.
Dostoevsky’s great-great-grandson presented the award at a ceremony held at JNU, which also featured dignitaries and literary personalities.
The Dostoevsky Star Award, bestowed by the Russian House, recognises individuals who have significantly advanced literature, cultural heritage, and international dialogue.
In India, prior recipients include renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar and other scholars celebrated for fostering Indo-Russian intellectual and cultural ties.
Professor Narain, a prominent scholar at the Centre of Russian Studies at JNU, has earned global recognition for her work in Russian philology and translation studies.
She has played a key role in modernising post-Soviet Russian studies curricula used across India and internationally. Her efforts have enhanced academic understanding of Russian literature and facilitated cross-cultural scholarship.
In addition to the Dostoevsky Star Award, Professor Narain has been honoured with the Pushkin Medal by the Russian government.
She is a frequent visiting faculty member at prestigious institutions such as Columbia University and New York University, further contributing to international academic exchange.

The award ceremony underscored Dostoevsky’s enduring literary influence and recognised Professor Narain’s achievements in strengthening Indo-Russian relations through education and cultural dialogue.
