Police Vehicle Hits Maharashtra Man, Victim Hospitalized; Case Lodged Against Cop

On Friday, a police vehicle hit a man at Panvel in neighboring Raigad district of Maharashtra who was severely injured and thereafter hospitalized, a police official said.

Police officials went to a slum to catch a group of gamblers when the incident happened. The police vehicle also broke the wall of a college after the car driver lost his control resulting in damaging the vehicle too.

The police official said, “The Panvel police station had received a tip-off that some people were gambling on a ground near a college. Accordingly, a police team went to the spot around 4.50 pm on Thursday in a police jeep. On seeing the police, the gamblers started running away.”

In the slum, due to rumpus the driver lost the car’s control and hit the 36-year-old man, a slum resident, Ashok Shivram Manjule who is currently in hospital and undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered under the IPC sections against the constable who was driving the vehicle, as per the sources. Further investigation of the case is underway.
