A raging fire broke out in the stores of the Bhagirath Palace market at Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi on Thursday night, according to authorities, who added that the fire suppression procedure is still ongoing.
40 fire engines were dispatched to the scene to handle the emergency, according to Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg, who also promised that the fire will be put out this morning.

The fire vehicles found it challenging to get to the scene due to Old Delhi’s congested streets. To put out the fires, the department is deploying a remote-control fire fighting apparatus.
He said that the situation was not good and that a significant portion of the structure had suffered damage.
“Right now, things are not looking good. There are 40 fire fighters on the scene. By dawn, the fire will be brought under control. So yet, there have been no recorded casualties. The building’s main structural element has been damaged “Garg informed the press.
An internal panel led by the Chief Fire Officer of the Delhi Fire Service was established earlier in October to find 50 accident-prone locations in the city where mobile fire tenders may be used.

Even though there may be fire stations close by in areas like Chandi Chowk and Sadar Bazar, the crowded and narrow lanes make it difficult for fire tenders to get there quickly. The committee plans to use a mobile fire engine and PCR van to go to these locations as quickly as possible.
Former Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, who visited the incident site, said that the main building is collapsing slowly as two floors are completely damaged. He said the fire tenders and police are at the site and efforts are being made to bring the fire under control, as per reports.
