Legendary Australian opener Matthew Hayden believes that England faces an uphill battle following their humiliation in Rajkot. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s remarkable double hundred and an outstanding performance by local talent Ravindra Jadeja ensured India’s resounding victory over Ben Stokes and his team, marking England’s most significant defeat since 1934. Despite the absence of veteran Virat Kohli and wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma’s Indian team convincingly defeated England in the 3rd Test, securing a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Following England’s impressive 28-run triumph over the hosts in Hyderabad, India has dominated the visitors in two subsequent matches. The Indian team leveled the series by defeating England’s Bazballers by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam. At Rajkot, India’s youthful squad showcased their depth by delivering a commanding performance, putting Stokes and his team under significant pressure.
Even England’s successful Bazball strategy has come under scrutiny following their defeat in the third Test.

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden believes that India holds the advantage over England in the Test series and will likely emerge victorious in the remaining matches. Expressing his views on the matter, Hayden stated, “I think India is the favorite to win the series. When considering the challenges faced by a touring side, India stands out. It’s a test of energy and how well it can be managed, which is a scarce resource.” Hayden shared his perspective during an interview with Star Sports, emphasizing the uphill battle England faces against Rohit Sharma and the Indian team.
England’s Bazball backfired
In India’s home turf, England’s star batsman and key player, Joe Root, is feeling the pressure as the hosts showcase their dominance in the Test series. India has effectively countered England’s aggressive batting approach, known as “Bazball,” by employing a similar strategy. Despite opener Ben Duckett’s impressive century off just 88 balls, England could only muster a total of 319 in response to India’s formidable first-innings score of 445 in Rajkot. Facing the daunting task of chasing down 557 runs, England’s batters crumbled under pressure and were dismissed for just 122, resulting in a significant defeat in the Rajkot Test.
