India’s sporting icons, past and present, have publicly praised the Indian armed forces for ‘Operation Sindoor’—a precision military strike on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The covert operation, carried out in the early hours of 7 May, targeted nine high-value locations linked to banned outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Gautam Gambhir, head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, took to social media to express his respect. He wrote simply but powerfully: “Jai Hind.”
As a long-time supporter of the armed forces, Gambhir has consistently spoken up on issues of national security, and this time was no different.
Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh posted on X: “JAI HIND. #OperationSindoor is Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam.”
His statement reflected both grief and pride, resonating with many on social media.
Suresh Raina expressed his support through a visual tribute on Instagram, sharing a striking image of the operation with the caption “Jai Hind.”
By doing so, he aligned himself with the national mood of gratitude towards the military.
Cricket commentator and former player Aakash Chopra also posted ‘Jai Hind’ on his social media handles.
His message was brief but deeply patriotic, applauding the strategic nature of the strike.

Pragyan Ojha joined his colleagues in paying tribute. He shared a similar message, ‘Jai Hind’.
His statement underscored unity within the cricketing community.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ spinner Varun Chakravarthy, currently active in IPL 2025, added his voice by sharing the official photo of the strike on Instagram.
This show of support from an active player highlighted that national pride cuts across generations in sport.
Former India women’s cricket star Jhulan Goswami posted: “Precision. Purpose. Power. That’s how India answers. #OperationSindoor.”
Her words echoed the calculated nature of the strike and reinforced national unity.
Boxer Gaurav Bidhuri, in a powerful statement to IANS, declared, “Those who used to question PM Modi about when India would strike — this is a strong answer to them. The opposition, which kept demanding proof, should take a good look now as well.”
Wrestling champion Bajrang Punia, who lost his brother in the Pahalgam attack, said: “I am immensely proud of our Indian Army. They have honoured the death of my brother with justice, courage, and precision.”
He urged the nation to unite behind the military, regardless of politics.
Olympic medallist and boxing icon Vijender Singh kept it brief but powerful: “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”
Badminton star Saina Nehwal also posted ‘Jai Hind’, adding to the chorus of admiration and support for the armed forces.
From cricket to combat sports, the Indian sports fraternity spoke in one voice: ‘Operation Sindoor’ was not just a strike—it was a statement of resolve.
Their individual tributes, while varied in expression, shared a common thread of national pride and unwavering respect for India’s armed forces.
