India’s Space Program Rooted In ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, Says PM Modi

In his video address at GLEX 2025, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that India’s space journey focuses on collective advancement for humanity, not competition with other nations.

He highlighted that the country’s space programme is rooted in the ancient principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – ‘the world is one family’.

This ethos, PM Modi explained, drives India’s approach to space exploration- focused not only on national growth but on contributing to global knowledge and addressing shared challenges.

A Remarkable Space Journey

PM Modi highlighted the remarkable strides India has made in space exploration, describing it as a journey rooted in curiosity, courage, and collective progress.

From launching its first small rocket in 1963 to becoming the first nation to land near the South Pole of the Moon, India’s space programme has been a testament to its scientific achievements and commitment to progress.

“We don’t just launch rockets with payloads; we launch the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians,” PM Modi said, reflecting on India’s space missions such as Chandrayaan-1, Chandrayaan-2, and Chandrayaan-3, alongside significant milestones like the launch of cryogenic engines and satellite docking.

Upcoming Missions: Bold Aspirations

Looking ahead, PM Modi outlined India’s upcoming space missions, including the much-anticipated ‘Gaganyaan’ human space-flight mission, slated for this year, and a joint ISRO-NASA mission to the International Space Station.

The Prime Minister also announced plans for setting up the Indian Space Station by 2035 and a new Moon mission by 2040, with Mars and Venus exploration also on the nation’s radar.

“India continues to march ahead with renewed confidence, pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration,” PM Modi added, highlighting that the country’s space exploration efforts are not only about discovery but also empowerment.

Space As Empowerment

Beyond exploration, PM Modi stressed that India’s space programme plays a pivotal role in empowering citizens.

From providing real-time alerts for fishermen to supporting infrastructure through the GatiShakti platform and ensuring railway safety, India’s satellites serve to enhance livelihoods and contribute to governance.

PM Modi called for further progress in space, urging countries to work together towards a future guided by science and shared dreams.

Collaborative Growth in Space Exploration

The GLEX 2025 conference serves as a platform for nations to share insights and collaborate on space exploration.

PM Modi called for collective efforts to write a new chapter in space exploration, emphasising the importance of sharing scientific advancements for the betterment of all.

India’s space programme, as articulated by PM Modi, represents not just national pride but a commitment to global cooperation, scientific progress, and empowerment.

With ambitious future missions and a focus on collective development, India is set to play a crucial role in the future of space exploration.
