PM Modi Names ‘Operation Sindoor’ As India’s Response To Pahalgam Terror Attack

PM Narendra Modi has named the Indian Armed Forces’ retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack as ‘Operation Sindoor.’

The operation targeted terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and has garnered widespread attention for its symbolic name and its precise execution.

Why Did PM Modi Choose Name ‘Operation Sindoor’?

Sources reveal that PM Modi specifically chose the name ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack.

The name holds deep symbolism, especially for Hindu women, who traditionally apply sindoor (vermilion) to their foreheads as a symbol of marriage.

Terrorists shot and killed 26 civilians in the Pahalgam attack, including 25 Hindu men whom they shot at point-blank range.

Many of the victims had recently married, and some terrorists murdered them in front of their wives and children while they were on holiday in the scenic Baisaran meadows.

They chose the name ‘Sindoor’ to honour the families, particularly the widows, and to recognise the senseless violence against these men.

‘Operation Sindoor’: A Fitting Tribute To Victims

The Indian Army released an image to commemorate the operation, with the name ‘Operation Sindoor’ written in bold letters.

The design depicted one of the ‘O’s in Sindoor as a bowl of vermilion, with some spilt over, symbolising the brutality of the attack. The caption read: “Justice is served. Jai Hind.”

The operation has resonated with the families of the victims. Colonel Abhay Patvardhan (Retd) noted, “The government has perfectly named Operation Sindoor to honour the victims, showing that it views their loss not as a statistic but as a personal tragedy, honouring their feelings and sentiments.”

Brigadier Uday Kumar W Deshmukh, SM (Sena Medal), VSM (Retd), supported the operation, stating that the Indian Armed Forces can now tighten the pressure on Pakistan if the country continues to sponsor terrorism.

Aarti, a mother of twins, expressed satisfaction with the operation after witnessing terrorists gun down her 68-year-old father, Ramachandran.

She said, “Although nothing can compensate our loss, we are happy with how India responded. India has hit back at the right time, and it was the moment we all waited for.”

The family of Shubham Dwivedi, one of the 26 victims, also expressed their gratitude for the justice delivered through ‘Operation Sindoor.’

A terrorist attack killed Dwivedi, a 30-year-old civilian from Uttar Pradesh, while he was visiting Pahalgam with his wife and sister-in-law.

His wife, Ashanya Dwivedi, thanked Prime Minister Modi and the Armed Forces for their efforts.

“The name ‘Operation Sindoor’ clearly shows they stand with us, those who lost their husbands,” said Ashanya. “What the Prime Minister promised, he has delivered. Terrorism will be eliminated wherever it exists.”
