Before the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, India all-around player Hardik Pandya returned to the Mumbai Indians. Pandya had just finished two incredible seasons as the Gujarat Titans’ captain. The development occurred just hours after MI completed the transaction, allowing the 2022 IPL champions to keep their captain. Hardik sent the Titans a poignant farewell note after the news.
Following his unexpected release from Mumbai prior to the 2022 season, Hardik was signed on by the Gujarat Titans and named captain. They finished as runners-up in the 2023 season after losing to the Chennai Super Kings in the championship game, but he went on to lead the rookies to an incredible title win that season. He picked up 11 wickets in over eight innings and scored 833 runs in 30 innings at 41.65 during those two seasons.
On Monday, hours after his Mumbai Indians deal was officially announced, Hardik penned an emotional note for his former franchise, the Gujarat Titans.
“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the fans, team, and management at the Gujarat Titans. Being part of the team and leading it has been an absolute honor, and I am immensely thankful for the love and encouragement my family and I have received as players and as individuals. The memories and experiences with GT will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for the unforgettable journey,” he shared on X.
Between 2015 and 2021, Hardik was a member of the Mumbai Indians, where he competed and won four titles. Hardik rose to prominence in MI thanks to his all-around skills, which subsequently enabled him to break through and secure a spot in the Indian squad.
