PM Modi Urges Women’s Cricket Team To Champion Fit India Movement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the Indian women’s cricket team to promote the Fit India Movement and raise awareness about combating obesity.

He met the World Cup-winning team on Wednesday and encouraged them to inspire the nation with their fitness and discipline.

PM Modi stressed the importance of adopting healthy habits and reducing oil consumption by 10 per cent while shopping.

He said that such advice, coming from successful athletes, would make a powerful impact. He also urged them to become ambassadors of Fit India, especially for young girls.

The Prime Minister praised their ability to motivate others through their achievements. He suggested that each player visit their former schools to interact with students and inspire them.

PM Modi advised them to choose three schools and visit one each year, creating long-lasting motivation for both players and children.

Head Coach Amol Muzumdar shared stories about the team’s journey.

He recalled meeting King Charles in England, where only 20 members were allowed due to protocol.

The support staff had missed the event but had expressed their wish to meet Prime Minister Modi instead, a dream that came true.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur spoke about the struggles the team faced, saying challenges made them stronger mentally and physically.

PM Modi appreciated her honesty and said her words were truly inspiring. She added that the team always believed they would lift the trophy and had worked hard for two years to build mental strength.

The Prime Minister agreed that their journey taught them to live in the present.

Harmanpreet said his guidance helped them follow that philosophy.

PM Modi also interacted with Deepti Sharma, joking about her role as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

She said the team had been eagerly waiting to meet him. Deepti recalled how his words in 2017 motivated her to rise after failure.

She added that his calm demeanour inspires her to stay composed during tough games.

The Prime Minister concluded by praising the team’s discipline, courage, and unity. He urged them to continue inspiring the nation through fitness and determination.
