CMD Upendrra Rai Promotes Youth Sportsmanship At Delhi Shooting Championship

Upendrra Rai, Chairman, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express, attended the 6th Air Rifle and Air Pistol Reward Programme, a part of the ‘Sports For All 2025’ initiative held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi.

The event brought together thousands of young shooters from across the country, with 100 of them set to receive sponsorships based on their performance.

CMD Rai was warmly welcomed by organisers and honoured for his continued support. He lauded the tireless efforts of the Sports For All Foundation and commended its lead coordinator, Khemchand Sharma, for empowering youth from rural and underprivileged backgrounds.

In an engaging moment, CMD Rai tried his hand at shooting and shared his experience online. He recalled scoring 9.5% in each of his first three rounds. His active participation uplifted the energy of the event and encouraged young shooters.

An Inclusive Sporting Movement

The foundation’s initiative has enabled over 12,000 children to participate in this championship. More than 10,000 spectators attended, underlining growing interest in shooting sports.

Speaking at the event, CMD Rai noted, “The Sports For All Foundation is engaged in a selfless mission. Promoting shooting among India’s youth requires unwavering commitment, and this team has delivered just that.”

Foundation head Khemchand Sharma echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Antyodaya’ vision, emphasising the importance of nurturing hidden talent from the grassroots.

He referred to CMD Upendrra Rai as a guiding elder and thanked him for supporting the cause, while Rai praised the team for organising not only the competition but also accommodation and meals for all participants.

CMD Rai also appreciated the PM Modi government’s sports initiatives, stating that India has seen remarkable growth in international sporting achievements in the past 11 years. “Olympic and Commonwealth medal counts have risen significantly,” he said, while stressing the importance of grassroots promotion for sustained growth.

The event provided a rare opportunity for young shooters, especially first-time visitors to Delhi. CMD Rai emphasised that collaboration and unity are essential for building India’s sports future. “Let’s rise above self-interest and work as one society to support our youth,” he added.

Events like Sports For All 2025 are laying a strong foundation for India’s sporting future. Under the leadership of dedicated individuals such as Upendrra Rai and Khemchand Sharma, India’s young shooters are finding the guidance and opportunities they need to shine. The event will run until 21 July 2025.
