Renowned poet and lyricist Gopaldas Neeraj holds an eternal place in the history of Hindi cinema. His soulful lyrics transformed poems into memorable film songs that continue to echo across generations.

As we mark his 7th death anniversary on 19 July, we honour his timeless contributions that shaped the golden era of Bollywood music.

Born on 4 January 1925 in Puravali village, Etawah, Neeraj’s lyrical genius left an indelible imprint on Indian cinema. His songs struck a rare balance between poetic depth and popular appeal, making him one of the most respected names in the industry.

For his literary brilliance, he was awarded the Padma Shri (1991), Padma Bhushan (2007), and Yash Bharati Award (1994).
