In a historic moment for Indian cricket, 14-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has stunned the nation by scoring the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a cash prize of ₹10 lakh to honour the young cricketer’s extraordinary achievement.
Representing Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav smashed a blistering 101 runs off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans on Monday.
He reached his century in only 35 balls, breaking the long-standing Indian record held by Yusuf Pathan, who had scored a century off 37 balls in 2010 against the Mumbai Indians.
The knock came in just Vaibhav’s third IPL appearance, making it even more remarkable given his age and limited experience at the highest level of franchise cricket.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took to the social media platform ‘X’ to congratulate the young star.
“Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest (14 years) player in IPL history to score a century. His hard work and talent have brought him to this milestone, and all of Bihar is proud of him,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister revealed that he had met Vaibhav and his father at his official residence in 2024 and wished them a bright future.
He also confirmed that he spoke to Vaibhav over the phone to congratulate him on his outstanding performance.
Moreover, announcing the reward, Nitish Kumar said, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi will receive ₹10 lakh as a token of appreciation from the Bihar state government. I hope he continues to deliver such performances for India and brings glory to the nation.”
Vaibhav had already made headlines last year when he became the youngest player ever to earn an IPL contract, as Rajasthan Royals signed him for ₹1.1 crore during the mega auction.
With this breakthrough performance, Vaibhav has not only carved a niche for himself in IPL history but also emerged as a beacon of hope for Indian cricket’s future.
