Ceasefire Violation By Pakistan Despite India-Pakistan Agreement

Despite the announced ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan army violated the agreement on Saturday evening, with multiple incidents reported across the region.

Explosions were heard in Srinagar, and heavy artillery fire was observed in areas including Akhnoor, Mendhar, RS Pura, Chamb, Bhimber, and Gurez sectors, prompting widespread alarm.

Violations Across Multiple Sectors

Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, expressed his frustration with the ceasefire violation on social media platform X, stating, “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!” He also added, “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up.”

Reports from various sources confirmed that loud explosions rang out across Srinagar, particularly in the Badami Bagh Cantonment area, which houses the headquarters of the Indian Army’s 15th Corps.

The area experienced a blackout soon after, with sirens sounding across Akhnoor and Baramulla towns as a result of the violations.

Drone Activity And Blackout Across Districts From Pakistan

Reports also mentioned that authorities sighted drones and subsequently brought them down in several locations, including Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment and Baramulla town.

Additionally, a drone was reportedly brought down in Baramulla town, while drone sightings were confirmed across the LoC in Indian territory.

Following the violations, locals observed blackouts not only in Srinagar but also in Kathua and Baramulla districts, heightening the sense of urgency and concern among residents.

Casualties And Damage From Artillery Fire

The ceasefire violations came just hours after Pakistani artillery fire claimed the lives of five people in Jammu and Kashmir.

The victims included Raj Kumar Thapa, the Additional District Development Commissioner (Rajouri), Rashida Bi, a woman from the region, two residents of Bihar in Poonch, and one person in Akhnoor sector.

The artillery attacks, particularly in the towns of Poonch and Uri, resulted in significant damage to civilian property and public infrastructure.

Reports indicated that the damage was severe, with residential buildings and public structures suffering extensive destruction.

Additional Attacks In Udhampur And Arnia

Further reports from Udhampur, the headquarters of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, suggest that a drone attack occurred in the town, although officials have not yet confirmed these incidents.

Additionally, the Arnia sector in the Samba district reported ceasefire violations.

Uncertainty Following Ceasefire Agreement

Despite the announcement of a ceasefire at 5 p.m. IST on Saturday, Pakistan’s actions raised questions over the effectiveness of the agreement.

While India had agreed to cease military actions, the continuing violations from the Pakistani side cast doubt on the long-term stability of the ceasefire and the prospects for peace between the two nations.

As tensions escalate, both local authorities and the Indian military remain on high alert, monitoring developments closely across the Jammu and Kashmir region.
