Just hours after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire, Pakistani forces violated the truce across multiple sectors.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed on Saturday that the Indian Army has been responding firmly to these provocations.
Speaking at a press briefing, Misri said, “This is a clear breach of understanding. The army is closely monitoring the situation and has been instructed to take strong retaliatory measures.”
Misri stated that both countries had reached a truce agreement earlier in the evening to halt land, air, and sea hostilities from 5 PM onwards.
However, Pakistan resorted to ceasefire violations in Akhnoor, Mendhar, RS Pura, Chamb, Bhimber, and Gurez sectors soon after the agreement came into effect.
Explosions were also reported in Srinagar, leading to panic and confusion in the city.
Indian soldiers immediately retaliated against the border intrusions.
Misri emphasised that the aggression from Pakistan was ‘highly condemnable’ and held Islamabad responsible for the escalation.
“Pakistan must understand the gravity of the situation and take immediate and appropriate action to end this aggression,” he added.
In addition to ground violations, reports confirmed drone activity in several areas.
Security forces brought down drones in Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment and in Baramulla town.
Blackouts followed in Srinagar, Kathua, and Baramulla districts, coinciding with sirens and explosions.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed concern on social media, posting on X, “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!”
The ceasefire followed India’s successful conclusion of the anti-terror ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The operation targeted nine terror platforms in Pakistan, inflicted damage on over a dozen Pakistani air bases, and significantly impacted Pakistani military morale.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh after the operation.
He praised the armed forces for their decisive action and reviewed the strategic gains.
Following the announcement of the ceasefire, citizens across India, particularly in border regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, celebrated with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.
The public hailed the military’s success in defending the nation and upholding its territorial integrity.
