‘War Is Not India’s Choice’: NSA Doval Speaks To Chinese FM Amidst Rising Indo-Pak Tensions

In a significant diplomatic outreach, Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval held a telephonic conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday.

During the call, Doval reaffirmed that ‘war is not India’s choice’ and stressed New Delhi’s commitment to a ceasefire and restoring peace with Pakistan.

The conversation followed a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of several Indian personnel and triggered a sharp escalation in regional tensions.

Chinese FM Condemns Terror Attack; Calls For Restraint

According to a readout from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NSA Doval described the Pahalgam attack as a grave incident that warranted India’s counter-terrorism action.

However, he made it clear that India preferred peace over conflict.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi condemned the attack and expressed China’s strong opposition to terrorism in all forms.

He acknowledged India’s right to respond but appreciated India’s stated commitment to avoid war.

“Peace and stability in the Asian region is hard-won and deserves to be cherished,” Wang said.

He urged both India and Pakistan to resolve their differences through dialogue and avoid further military escalation.

Mutual Ceasefire Undermined By Ground Violations

Despite the diplomatic overtures, events on the ground quickly contradicted the peaceful tone.

Just hours after India and Pakistan agreed to a mutual ceasefire, fresh hostilities erupted along the border.

In a late-night press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire terms agreed upon by the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs).

“For the last few hours, this understanding has been violated by Pakistan,” Misri stated. “The Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with this border intrusion.”

He called Pakistan’s actions ‘extremely condemnable’ and demanded an immediate end to the violations.

Indian Forces On High Alert

The government has instructed the Indian armed forces to stay on high alert and respond firmly to any further breaches along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border.

He emphasised that the government viewed Pakistan’s provocations seriously and committed itself to defending national sovereignty and regional peace.
