PM Modi Unveils Nine Civic Commitments At Udupi’s Sri Krishna Math Event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the revered Sri Krishna Math in Udupi, Karnataka, where he participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita chanting ceremony.

Addressing thousands of devotees, he urged the nation to embrace nine civic commitments rooted in the values of responsibility, sustainability, and cultural pride.

PM Modi noted that the Bhagavad Gita continues to guide society with its timeless message of duty.

“Inspired by the Gita, I seek nine commitments from you—convictions essential for today’s world,” he said, adding that he hopes these messages will reach every household with the blessings of the seers.

The Nine Civic Commitments

The Prime Minister further outlined nine pledges he urged citizens to consider:

  1. Preserve Water and Rivers: PM Modi appealed to citizens to protect water resources and participate in river conservation.
  2. Plant a Tree: He encouraged people to plant trees, especially in their mother’s name—an initiative gaining nationwide momentum.
  3. Help One Poor Person: PM Modi asked each citizen to work towards improving the life of at least one poor individual.
  4. Promote Swadeshi: Calling for a shift towards local goods, he stressed the importance of Swadeshi and Atmanirbhar Bharat in strengthening the country’s economy and job creation.
  5. Support Natural Farming: He highlighted the need to revive traditional, sustainable agricultural practices.
  6. Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle: PM Modi urged people to consume millets and reduce oil in their diets.
  7. Incorporate Yoga Daily: He emphasised yoga as an essential practice for physical and mental well-being.
  8. Preserve Manuscripts: Noting that ancient wisdom lies in old manuscripts, he said the Centre is advancing preservation efforts through the Gyan Bharatam Mission.
  9. Visit 25 Indian Heritage Sites: PM Modi encouraged citizens to explore India’s cultural richness, recommending Kurukshetra’s Mahabharat Anubhav Kendra and Gujarat’s Madhavpur Mela as notable destinations.

Additionally, the Prime Minister linked these civic commitments to the larger national goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047. He highlighted Karnataka’s key role in this journey, stating that every citizen and institution must contribute to national development.

Reflecting on his visit to the Sri Krishna Math, he said, “When a devotee like me sees Lord Krishna through the small window, the bond with Kanaka Dasa’s devotion becomes even stronger.”

PM Modi added that Lord Krishna’s teachings remain universally relevant.
