The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season indefinitely, citing national security concerns amid rising military tensions between India and Pakistan.
The decision came after an emergency meeting on Friday, sources confirmed to IANS.
On Thursday, the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala was abandoned after just 10.1 overs.
Drone and air strikes from Pakistan led to widespread blackouts in nearby regions including Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur—prompting fears over player and spectator safety.
Sources within the BCCI stated, “Yes, the meeting just concluded. After consulting all concerned authorities, the board has decided to suspend the tournament with immediate effect. Details will be announced shortly.”
An official from the IPL added, “The BCCI stands with the nation during this time. The league will remain suspended indefinitely. A future window for resumption will depend on national circumstances later this year.”
In the aftermath of the Dharamshala incident, several international players—particularly from Australia—reportedly voiced their anxiety regarding safety.

In response, the BCCI has arranged a special evacuation train to transport players from both teams, match officials, commentators, broadcasters, and support staff to a secure location.
The suspension follows a major escalation in hostilities. On May 7–8, India launched precision strikes against nine high-value terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), responding to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.
India’s military targeted air defence radars in several Pakistani locations, neutralising one in Lahore.
Pakistan launched aerial strikes on Jammu and several military posts along the western border, but India’s air defence systems successfully intercepted them.
While fans and franchises await further clarity, the BCCI has not provided a timeline for the possible resumption of the IPL 2025 season.
The suspension underscores the seriousness of the conflict and the board’s decision to prioritise national interests over sporting commitments.
