Parliament security breach case: HC dismisses plea by accused Neelam Azad against police remand
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition by Neelam Azad, an accused arrested in the December 13 Parliament security breach case, seeking her release on ground that her police remand was illegal. A bench headed by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait said the petition was not maintainable. "Petitioner has already moved bail application before the trial court.Present petition is not maintainable and is dismissed accordingly," the bench, also comprising Justice Manoj Jain said.
Mahayuti aims to win more than 45 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra: State BJP chief
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday said the 'Mahayuti' alliance aims to win more than 45 of the total 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state and will start preparatory meetings from January 14 for the next general polls. Addressing a press conference here, Bawankule also claimed that workers and leaders from the opposition parties would switch over to the ruling side ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due later this year.
Man booked for raping and impregnating teenage girl
Police have registered an offence against a man from Rabale in Navi Mumbai for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl and impregnating her, an official said on Tuesday. The case against the accused, Omkar (20), was registered at the Rabale MIDC police station based on the complaint lodged by the victim's mother under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said. The accused is absconding and an operation has been launched to trace him, the official said. The accused developed a friendship with the victim. But when he refused his love proposal, he raped her in March 2023, leaving her eight months pregnant, he said, adding that a probe into the crime was on.
MHA to Replace Colonial Laws with Three New Acts Before January 26
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is all set to notify the three new criminal justice acts replacing colonial laws namely the IPC, the CrPC and the Evidence Act before January 26. The procedure to notify the three new laws-- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam-- started soon after President Droupadi Murmu on December 25 gave her assent.
