Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at the Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) amid speculation of infighting by making an offer to detractors. Yadav, in his post on X, wrote, “Monsoon offer: Sau lao, sarkar banao.”
Yadav’s offer comes amidst speculation of infighting within the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP. Speculations of differences between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy, Keshav Prasad Maurya, came to the forefront following a cryptic post by Maurya on Wednesday. After a meeting with BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda, Maurya posted on X, “The organization is bigger than the government, the pain of the workers is my pain. No one is bigger than the organization; the workers are the pride.”
Maurya made similar comments on July 14 during a BJP meeting addressing party workers.
Reports of rumblings in the UP BJP emerged after an underwhelming performance in the Lok Sabha elections, which left Prime Minister Narendra Modi without a parliamentary majority and dependent on his allies.
Keshav Prasad Maurya Slams Akhilesh Yadav, Defends BJP’s Strength & Future In UP
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Keshav Prasad Maurya hit out at Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday over his remarks.
“SP Bahadur Shri Akhilesh Yadav ji, BJP has a strong organization and government both in the country and the state. SP’s PDA is a fraud. The return of SP’s hooliganism in UP is impossible. BJP will repeat 2017 in the 2027 assembly elections,” posted Keshav Prasad Maurya on X.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party currently holds a majority with 251 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly. With Yogi Adityanath as Chief Minister (a Thakur) and two deputy CMs, Keshav Prasad Maurya (an OBC) and Brajesh Pathak (a Brahmin), the BJP has tried to strike a balance among different caste groups in the state.
With its allies as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the ruling coalition holds a significant majority with 283 members. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party, the principal opposition party in Uttar Pradesh, has 105 MLAs. Yadav’s comments are being seen by political pundits as an attempt to incite differences within the ruling party.
