Trying To Lose Weight? Could These Everyday Habits Make The Difference?

Losing weight is not simply about eating less and exercising more.

Hindustan Times reports that lasting weight management depends on food habits, sleep, physical activity, stress, work schedules, medical history and living conditions.

India’s latest health data highlights the concern.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s July 2026 NFHS-6 update reported that 30.7 per cent of women and 27.3 per cent of men aged 15 to 49 are overweight or obese. It recorded rising levels of high or very high blood sugar among adults aged 15 and above.

Experts stress that weight care should move beyond willpower and severe restriction.

Irregular meals, inadequate sleep, prolonged sitting, stress, hormonal changes, certain medicines and existing health conditions can affect appetite, energy and weight.

Small, consistent adjustments can make healthy routines easier to maintain. These include improving meal quality, managing portions, eating a balanced breakfast and adding sufficient protein through foods such as dal, curd, eggs, paneer, chana, fish and chicken. Cutting sugary drinks, eating slowly, planning snacks and keeping dinner lighter can help.

Physical activity can increase gradually. Walking after meals, using stairs, interrupting long periods of sitting and adding basic strength exercises can build an active routine.

The WHO recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week for adults.

Experts say the objective should extend beyond reaching a particular number on the weighing scale.

A realistic plan should support overall health and long-term wellbeing.

Sustainable weight management ultimately requires habits that suit an individual’s body, lifestyle and circumstances rather than quick fixes.
