‘The Doors Of The Supreme Court Are Open To Everyone’: CJI Surya Kant Explains INDIA Bloc Snub

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Monday explained his decision to decline the INDIA bloc leaders’ request for a meeting, stressing that the Supreme Court remains accessible to every citizen and addresses grievances in accordance with the law.

Speaking to reporters, CJI Surya Kant said he received the leaders’ letter on Sunday and sent his reply that night. Although he outlined the reasons for declining the request, he maintained the confidentiality of the correspondence.

“The doors of the Supreme Court are open to everyone,” the CJI said, assuring citizens and elected representatives that the court would hear their grievances under the law and grant relief wherever warranted.

The CJI had earlier declined the Congress-led Opposition bloc’s request for a meeting ahead of its planned march to the Supreme Court on Monday.

Reports said the CJI advised the delegation to file a petition because the issues it intended to raise were already sub judice.

CJI Surya Kant reportedly said the judiciary could not meet a political party’s delegation administratively and must instead consider petitions and deliver judgments.

The court remains committed to protecting every citizen’s fundamental rights.

Despite the refusal, the INDIA bloc’s planned march was expected to proceed.

Opposition parties have demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi described the march as ‘not of a political party, but of all Indians’.

Rahul Gandhi accused the government of benefiting from the SIR exercise, intensifying the Opposition’s confrontation with the Election Commission.

INDIA bloc leaders submitted a charter of demands to President Droupadi Murmu last Friday, outlining four key demands concerning electoral reforms and alleged vote manipulation.
