Highlighting the significance of voter participation, Rajiv Kumar called upon citizens to exercise their right without hesitation, describing the electoral process as the pride of the nation.

The government said that such wide general election made it humanly impossible for a single CEC to carry out his duties alone.

After the Supreme Court ruled that for Chief Election Commissioner's appointment the selection panel will comprise the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of India (CJI), this bill was introduced.

At present, the president of the country appoints the chief election commissioner and two commissioners for a tenure of six years each
