The Supreme Court heard the ongoing issue of farmer protests at Khanauri Border concerning demands, including Minimum Support Price (MSP).
During the session, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the bench that the central government had already engaged in two rounds of discussions with the protesting farmers.
The next round of talks is scheduled for March 19, 2025.
Based on these discussions, the court decided to delay its hearing and set a future date to continue the proceedings.
Court Discusses Dallewal’s Medical Aid
One of the primary topics addressed by the Supreme Court was the medical condition of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal.
Petitioners had requested that the Punjab government be held in contempt for failing to provide necessary medical aid to Dallewal.
During the session, it was clarified that Dallewal had agreed to receive medical assistance after talks with the central government, and the court previously expressed strong disapproval of preventing a sick individual from receiving medical treatment.
In the prior hearing, the court had criticized the actions of those obstructing medical care for Dallewal, calling it a criminal offense.
Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia stated that preventing someone from being taken to the hospital for medical treatment amounts to inciting suicide.
Court Praises Efforts To Resolve Grievances
The court also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the high-level committee formed to address the farmers’ grievances amicably.
This committee, led by retired official Nawab Singh, has been working to resolve the issues raised by the farmers.
The Supreme Court took note of the committee’s progress and decided to set remuneration for the committee members.
The committee chairperson will receive ₹2 lakh per meeting, while other members will receive ₹1 lakh per session.

The court has set the next hearing date for March 19, 2025, to evaluate further developments in the farmers’ demands and the progress of the talks.
