The Delhi High Court has refused to hear an early petition filed by Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Rashid Engineer, in the Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case.
A bench led by Chief Justice DK Upadhyay stated that the case would be auto-listed tomorrow and questioned the urgency. The court may hear his plea on Friday.
Rashid Engineer has requested the removal of conditions imposed on his permission to attend Parliament at his own expense.
His lawyer informed the court that he was asked to pay ₹1.4 lakh per day to attend the session.
The Chief Justice questioned whether the court should decide on the amount the government bears. The court also asked if this issue could be resolved in his appeal.
The Delhi High Court had earlier allowed Rashid Engineer to attend Parliament but barred him from using mobile phones, landlines, or speaking to the media.
During a previous hearing, senior advocate N Hariharan argued for his client’s right to attend the Lok Sabha session.
Justice Chandradhari Singh ruled that Rashid Engineer would remain in Parliament Security’s custody while attending proceedings. He would be handed over to jail authorities immediately after the session.
The court directed that he be returned to jail daily, even after official hours, following jail rules.
