Yogi Government Prepares For Plastic-Free, Eco-Friendly Mahakumbh 2025

The Yogi Adityanath government is committed to making Mahakumbh 2025 both eco-friendly and free of single-use plastics. In line with the Chief Minister’s vision, the event will feature a complete ban on plastic products, replacing them with eco-friendly alternatives like dona (leaf plates), pattal (leaf bowls), kulhars (clay cups), and jute and cloth bags.

To support this initiative, special stalls offering these sustainable items will be set up across the Mahakumbh fairgrounds. This will make it easy for visitors to use eco-friendly products while enjoying the festivities. Tenders have already been issued, marking a crucial step toward a cleaner, greener and eco-friendly Mahakumbh.

To further bolster this effort, Prayagraj Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant has divided the city into zones, assigning nodal officers to maintain cleanliness and a plastic-free environment. Their progress will be reviewed weekly to ensure the initiative’s success.

Polythene wholesalers have been instructed to halt plastic bag supplies in the city, and a public awareness campaign is already in motion. Posters and banners carrying anti-plastic messages will be displayed across Prayagraj as part of the “Swachh Mahakumbh, Swachh Prayagraj” initiative.

Street performances will also be held to educate the public on the importance of avoiding plastic. Recently, the Divisional Commissioner and District Magistrate took a pledge on the banks of Sangam to “Say No to Plastic,” encouraging all citizens to join this mission for a sustainable Mahakumbh.
