External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India’s firm commitment to fighting terrorism in all its forms, following the launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’, a precision military operation targeting terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan.
The operation came in response to the brutal terror attack on 22 April in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 25 Indian civilians and one Nepali citizen lost their lives.
Intelligence agencies traced the attack to Pakistan-based group The Resistance Front, a known Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy.
India vowed a decisive reply, combining military action with strategic diplomacy.
On the night of 6 May, Indian defence forces executed targeted air and missile strikes on nine high-value terror camps located deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Indian Army confirmed that the strikes were meticulously planned to avoid any civilian or military infrastructure, focusing solely on terrorist bases and logistical centres used to coordinate attacks on Indian soil.
A spokesperson for the Indian Army remarked, “Our strikes were precise and confined to terrorist targets. We ensured no collateral damage to civilian or economic infrastructure.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained in constant contact with senior defence officials and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval throughout the course of the operation.
Sources indicated that he received real-time updates as the mission unfolded.
Senior military officials briefed the Cabinet Committee on Security immediately after the operation concluded.
The mission was declared a success, with defence sources estimating that over 50 terrorists and handlers were neutralised.
Following the strikes, EAM Jaishankar posted on X, formerly Twitter, “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism.”
He emphasised that India counters cross-border terrorism through regional action and urges unified global pressure on nations harbouring terror groups.
Jaishankar’s comments also serve as a call to the international community to take stronger, coordinated action against states that support or shelter terrorist networks.
Operation Sindoor represents one of India’s most significant military responses to terrorism since the Balakot airstrikes in 2019.
Unlike previous missions involving ground troop incursions, this operation relied entirely on stand-off capabilities, including missiles and drones launched from within Indian territory.
Defence analysts see the operation as a reflection of India’s evolving security strategy- leveraging advanced technology to deliver swift, effective responses to asymmetric threats while minimising risks to personnel.
As India continues to face the challenge of cross-border terrorism, Operation Sindoor sends a strong message of resolve, both domestically and internationally, that such attacks will not go unanswered.
