Airlines Suspend Services Citing Security Concerns After ‘Operation Sindoor’

In the wake of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ the Indian Army launched precision strikes on nine high-value terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), prompting airlines to cancel or divert several domestic and international flights.

The military action led to widespread disruption of air travel, as carriers responded swiftly to the heightened security concerns across northern India.

The Indian Army launched the operation in retaliation for the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, causing significant air travel disruptions across northern India.

Airlines Confirm Flight Cancellations & Diversions

Air India announced the cancellation of all its flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot until noon on May 7, awaiting further updates from authorities.

The airline diverted two international flights bound for Amritsar to Delhi as a precautionary measure.

IndiGo, the largest low-cost carrier in India, followed by announcing the cancellation of flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, and Jodhpur for the day.

The airline urged passengers to monitor their schedules closely, anticipating further adjustments.

SpiceJet also reported disruptions, with services to northern India impacted, including those to Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar.

Airports in these regions were closed until further notice, affecting both departures and arrivals.

Operation Sindoor Targets Terror Infrastructure

‘Operation Sindoor’ was a targeted military action, carefully executed by the Indian Army to strike known terror camps and infrastructure linked to groups responsible for the attack in Pahalgam.

The operation aimed to hold those responsible for the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali national, accountable while avoiding escalation.

The government confirmed that the Indian Army successfully struck all nine targets, ensuring the operation remained precise and non-escalatory, with no civilian or military infrastructure in Pakistan affected.

Impact On Schools & Educational Institutions

Authorities have closed educational institutions along the international border with Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, in response to the heightened security situation.

Authorities have shut schools and colleges in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and Fazilka districts, with some remaining closed until further notice.

This decision has been made to ensure the safety of students and staff in light of the ongoing military action.

Government’s Strategic Response & Monitoring

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with senior officials, closely monitored the progress of Operation Sindoor throughout the operation, staying in constant communication with national security advisors and military commanders.

The operation showcased the Indian government’s commitment to taking decisive action against terrorism while maintaining a strategic approach to prevent further escalation.

The disruption to both domestic and international flights highlights the broader impact of the military operation and underscores the sensitive security situation in northern India.

The government’s swift actions reflect its resolve to protect its citizens while maintaining peace and stability in the region.
