Lucknow came alive as Dinesh Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, inaugurated the Mohanlalganj sports festival. He said, “Sports spirit represents the true soul of India.”
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating new awareness about sports among children and youth.
Dinesh Sharma noted that the government has developed sports facilities down to the village level, allowing rural talent to shine.
The MP highlighted that programs like Khelo India provide young athletes a platform to excel. He said PM Modi aims to integrate sports into children’s daily routines alongside academics.
According to Dinesh Sharma, sports build a healthy society and instil perseverance, discipline, and teamwork among youth.
During the inauguration, Dinesh Sharma said, “Watching children compete with high spirits today reassures me that India’s future is bright. Their camaraderie and competitive spirit reflect true sportsmanship.”
He added that growing interest in sports can also create employment opportunities for players.
He emphasised that healthy competition is essential for building a developed India, and sports play a critical role in nurturing this mindset.
India is set to host the Commonwealth Games, and events like these help identify and polish the nation’s athletic talent.
Competitions in tug-of-war, kho-kho, kabaddi, football, and cricket energised the stadium.
Players’ performances sparked excitement among spectators. Supporters cheered enthusiastically, and the event began with colourful balloons.
The festival concluded with spectacular fireworks and awards for victorious athletes.
The event welcomed several prominent attendees. Sandeep Sahu, director of educational institutions, and Pradeep Sahu, manager of BSS Inter College, were present.
Councillor Anurag Mishra, Annu and Manish Rastogi attended the event. Chief Priest Bablu Mishra of Kal Bhairav Temple, Varanasi, and BJP leader Sanket Mishra were also present.
Dinesh Sharma reinforced that sports inspire youth, foster social consciousness, and create pathways for leadership and employment.
He urged citizens to support athletic pursuits and embrace the values of resilience, teamwork, and national pride.
