The court has reserved its decision in the case of not giving sanction to prosecute the railway officials responsible for the death of a woman due to electrocution in the premises of New Delhi Railway Station. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh of Tis Hazari Court will give his verdict on this issue on June 1.
During the hearing in the court, Assistant Police Commissioner Sanjeev Chahal and investigating officer Naseeb Chauhan were present. When asked by the court, he said that a case has been registered against the officers whose names were given by the Railways in this case. As of now, Railways has not given approval to prosecute these officers.
The victim’s advocates GK Bharti and Tanishk Khurana had told the court that the police had registered a case against seven railway officials under wrong sections. Also, Railways has refused to give sanction to prosecute the seven officers responsible.
He also said that neither a doctor nor an ambulance was present at the railway station at the time of the incident. Apart from this, there were many other responsible officers also. The police should also investigate against these people because New Delhi Railway Station is the main station of the capital and to ensure that such incidents do not happen again, action should be ordered against all the responsible officers so that those who are negligent can learn a lesson.
In view of all this, apart from giving permission to the Railways to prosecute the officers, the court should also direct the investigating officers to register the case under the correct sections.
A case was registered against Railway’s SSE Power Supply Bharat Bhushan, Gopal Kumar, Technician Jagdish Kumar, Sita Ram, Wireman Narayan Singh, Manish Kumar and Deepak Kumar.
Sakshi Ahuja died on June 25, 2023 due to electrocution. At that time, she along with her sister and her two children had reached the premises of New Delhi Railway Station around 5:50 in the morning that day to know about Vande Bharat to Chandigarh. During that time she died due to electric shock. It is alleged that she got electrocuted due to electric current in the electric pole. The electric pole had bare wires which were not insulated. There was no warning sign there either.
