“We Were Left To The Mob By The Police”, Woman Reveals In Manipur Horror Incident

A video of two women of Kuki-Zomi community paraded naked in Manipur on May 4 went viral on social media, one of the victims revealed to Indian express that both the women were “left to mob by the police”.

In the police complaint filed on May 18 the victims alleged that younger woman(21) was gang raped during the day multiple times. The victims told that their village in Kangpokpi district was attacked by the mob after which they ran to forest for shelter after which they were rescued by the police and were being taken to police station, however they were stopped in the way by the mob and were taken from police custody nearly 2 km from the police station.

According to Indian Express, the younger woman said, ” “The police were there with the mob which was attacking our village. The police picked us up from near home, and took us a little away from the village and left us on the road with the mob. We were given to them by police.”

Father and brother of Younger woman was killed by the mob, she said, “After all the men were killed, and the mob did what they did, we were just left there and we escaped.”

The woman said as there is no internet in Manipur she wasn’t aware of the video being viral that captured the entire incident. As there were many men who were part of the mob in the video the younger woman was able to recognize a few of them including one who was her brother’s friend.

The National Commission for Women has taken suo moto cognizance and asked State Police to take quick action on the horrifying case that happened in Manipur, 2 women were paraded naked on May 4.

National Commission for Women (NCW) has formally directed the Head, Public Policy at Twitter India to remove the video showing the disgraceful act of two women being paraded naked. NCW said, “This video compromises the victims’ identities and is a punishable offence.”
