Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is facing social media backlash after a recent gaffe during an NDA rally in Nawada. In a viral video, Kumar mistakenly predicted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would win ‘more than 4,000 seats’ in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He stumbled over his words, initially saying “char lakh (four lakh)” before correcting himself to “char hazaar se bhi zyada (more than 4,000)” while addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Janata Dal(United) leader, who rejoined the NDA in January, has been vocal about his desire for a “400 plus tally” for the PM in the elections. However, his slip of the tongue has sparked ridicule on social media, with opposition parties seizing the opportunity to criticize him. The Rashtriya Janata Dal reposted the video clip with a caption highlighting the NDA’s alleged cluelessness and unfulfilled promises in Bihar.
This isn’t the first time Kumar has made such errors. Previously, he referred to himself as a former Union Home Minister, a statement mocked by the BJP, then in the opposition, as they questioned his mental acuity. Despite his occasional verbal missteps, Kumar remains the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar.
During the NDA rally, Kumar also targeted the RJD for its governance from 1990 to 2005, asserting Bihar’s progress under his leadership. He emphasized developments like improved infrastructure and social harmony, contrasting them with the situation before 2005.
Bihar, with its 40 Lok Sabha seats, will undergo elections in all seven phases starting April 19, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
