Uttarakhand to become first state to implement Uniform Civil Code

According to sources, Uttarakhand will be the first state in the state to implement the Uniform Civil Code the following week.

They also said that in the coming days, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami would receive a report from a committee chaired by Justice (retired) Ranjana Desai.

The week following Diwali, the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly will convene a special session to pass the Uniform Civil Code bill and give it legal standing.

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft committee member, retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, announced in June of this year that the state government would shortly receive the completed Uniform Civil Code for Uttarakhand.

“It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that the drafting of the proposed Uniform Civil Code of Uttarakhand is now complete,” she said.

Additionally, according to sources, Gujarat may adopt the Uniform Civil Code prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, following Uttarakhand.
