Union Home Minister Amit Shah Blames Congress For Delay In Action On Prajwal Revanna Case

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing criticism against the Congress party, accusing its government in Karnataka of deliberate inaction in the case involving suspended JD-S leader Prajwal Revanna. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shah alleged that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and state Home Minister G Parameshwara knew about the allegations against Revanna for months but allowed him to flee the country, purportedly to ensure the completion of Lok Sabha polls in Vokkaliga-dominated areas without disruption.

The political fallout intensified after Revanna’s departure, with Congress and other opposition parties targeting the BJP over the incident. Responding to these accusations, Shah placed the blame squarely on the Congress government’s shoulders, claiming they delayed action until after the first phase of voting on April 26 due to their political calculations.

Revanna, a sitting MP from Hassan and NDA candidate, faced allegations of sexual harassment filed by his former housekeeper on April 28. The Karnataka Police booked him under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC. The case, implicating Revanna and his father HD Revanna, stirred controversy within JD-S and prompted his suspension from the party. In response, the Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations.

Meanwhile, Prajwal Revanna, communicating through his advocate, informed the CID of his inability to attend the inquiry in Bangalore. He expressed confidence in the truth prevailing in due course. Addressing Congress’s allegations regarding the BJP’s stance on the Constitution, Shah dismissed them as baseless, asserting BJP’s commitment to upholding reservations for weaker sections.

Shah also accused Congress of resorting to “deepfake” videos in desperation, attempting to mislead the public ahead of the elections. Despite the political tumult, voting for the remaining 14 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka is scheduled for May 7. The episode underscores the high-stakes political climate in the state, with the Revanna controversy further fueling the electoral dynamics.
