The first India-Central Asia meeting of National Security Advisors, Secretaries of Security Councils was held on Tuesday, 6 December 2022 in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. Commencing the meeting the NSA also welcomed the top officials of Uzbekistan including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan participating in the meeting, while Turkmenistan was represented by their ambassador in India in the meeting.

This is the first time India hosted top security officials from Central Asian countries. The meeting took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and the Central Asian countries. The present situation in Afghanistan was discussed in this conference, along with the security situation and ways to deal with the threat of terrorism emerging from the country.

Addressing the National Security Advisors and Secretaries of the Security Council, NSA Ajit Doval said, ‘Accepting India’s invitation is a testimony of your kindness by accepting our gift and it enriches the discussion as well. Central Asian countries are our extended neighbors.’

Ajit Doval emphasized that the survival of terrorist networks in Afghanistan is a matter of concern. Combating the financing of terrorism must be a priority for all. All members of the United Nations should refrain from providing assistance to organizations involved in terrorist activities.

Afghanistan is an important issue for all of us – Doval

On the occasion, NSA Ajit Doval stated that Afghanistan is an important issue for all of us and India’s concerns and objectives with regard to immediate priorities and the way forward, are shared by many of us. Ajit Doval said that we have met at a time of great churning and uncertainty about international relations and the global future. A peaceful, secure and prosperous Central Asia is in our common interest.

Ajit Doval also pointed out that connectivity with Central Asia is a major priority for India. India stands ready for cooperation, investment and connectivity building in this area. While expanding connectivity, it is important to ensure that initiatives are consultative, transparent and participatory.
