Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Dehradun on Sunday to participate in the silver jubilee celebrations of Uttarakhand’s formation.
The programme will begin around 12:30 PM, during which the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 8,140 crore.
During the event, PM Modi will inaugurate projects valued at Rs 930 crore and lay foundation stones for new initiatives totalling Rs 7,210 crore. These projects span drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports, and skill development.
He will also launch a commemorative postal stamp and release a financial assistance package of Rs 62 crore for more than 28,000 farmers, transferring the funds directly under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Key projects include the Dehradun Water Supply Coverage Project under AMRUT, an electrical substation in Pithoragarh, solar power plants on government buildings, and the AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium.
Hydro and Infrastructure Initiatives
PM Modi will lay foundation stones for two major hydro-sector projects: the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, supplying 150 million litres of water daily to Dehradun, and the Jamarani Dam Multipurpose Project in Nainital, which will provide drinking water, irrigation support, and electricity generation.
Additional projects include electrical substations, a Women’s Sports College in Champawat, and a state-of-the-art dairy plant in Nainital, among others.
Uttarakhand, established on November 9, 2000, as India’s 27th state, was initially named Uttaranchal before officially adopting the name in 2007. Known as Devbhoomi or the ‘Land of the Gods’, the state is home to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
The Foundation Day celebrates the region’s cultural heritage, resilience, and identity, marking 25 years of progress. Across the state, celebrations feature cultural programmes, parades, exhibitions, traditional dances, and folk music, reflecting Uttarakhand’s rich and diverse traditions.
PM Modi’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to balanced development, linking the state’s spiritual and natural heritage with modern infrastructure and economic growth.
