Sikkim Assembly Election 2024: SKM Leads Early Vote Count

The fate of Sikkim’s political landscape hangs in the balance as the counting of votes for the 2024 Sikkim Assembly election kicked off at 6 AM today.

In the initial wave of vote counting, the ruling party, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has surged ahead, leading in 31 out of 32 seats.

With aspirations to maintain their grip on power in the state, Chief Minister Tamang has been assertively campaigning across the region, aiming to secure another term for his party.

The halfway mark in the Sikkim assembly stands at 17 seats, indicating a significant lead for SKM at this juncture.

In stark contrast, the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is currently only leading in one seat, marking a challenging start for the party in this electoral battle.

The electoral contest in Sikkim witnessed a multi-cornered fight, with candidates from various political factions vying for supremacy.

Alongside SKM and SDF, contenders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAP-S) were also in the fray, adding layers of complexity to the electoral dynamics.

Prior to the election, numerous exit polls had predicted a favorable outcome for SKM, foreseeing the party’s retention of power with a commanding majority.

If these early trends are indicative, it appears that the predictions might materialize into reality.

As the counting progresses, all eyes are on the final tally, which will ultimately determine the direction in which Sikkim’s political trajectory will steer in the coming years.

The citizens await with bated breath as the suspense unfolds in this critical electoral battleground.
