In the initial wave of vote counting, CM Prem Singh Tamang, commonly known as P S Golay, has emerged as a frontrunner in two constituencies he contested.
Additionally, his spouse, Krishna Kumari Rai, is currently leading against the opposition candidate Bimal Rai in the Namchi-Singhithang Assembly segment.
Former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition from the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), Pawan Kumar Chamling, finds himself trailing behind the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) candidate Bhoj Raj Rai in the initial rounds of vote counting conducted on Sunday.
Chamling, who was vying for an unprecedented ninth consecutive term from the Poklok-Kamrang Assembly constituency, faces a formidable challenge from the SKM.
As per the latest trends emerging from the vote-counting process, the SKM party is leading in a commanding 31 out of the 32 Assembly seats in the state.
Conversely, the opposition SDF is currently only ahead in one seat, Shyari.
The 2019 Assembly elections witnessed a narrow victory for the SKM, securing 17 seats and edging out the SDF.
However, this time around, the ruling party seems poised for a sweeping victory across the state.
The voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly took place on April 19, with the electorate eagerly awaiting the outcome that could potentially reshape the political landscape of the Himalayan state.
