The NC won 42 seats, while Congress claimed six, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) three, CPI(M) one, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) one, People’s Conference (PC) one, and independents took seven seats. The NC and Congress had formed a pre-poll alliance, with Congress supporting the NC government while opting not to join the government until J&K’s statehood is restored.
Since taking office, the new J&K cabinet has passed a resolution calling for the return of statehood, which Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The NC also plans to introduce a resolution to restore Article 370, fulfilling a key election promise.
